Favaritx Lighthouse

The Favaritx lighthouse can be found a little more than half an hour away by car from Maó, the capital of the island, through the incredible landscapes of the Natural Park of S’ Albufera des Grau.

Built in 1922, it is one of the most famous lighthouses that you can find in Menorca, in its construction they used the rock that is found in the area, as for its landscape it offers an incredible and unique landscape that surrounds it, you can feel as if you were on the moon.

When you visualize the composition of the rock and the fossils found in the surroundings of the Favaritx Lighthouse, you can realize that you are in the oldest part of the island of Menorca.

The landscape surrounding this beautiful lighthouse defines it as romantic and like a lunar landscape, however, for scientists this beautiful place is defined as a rocky point of black slate. There is very little vegetation in the area, the ground is made of laminated black slate and the cliffs are steep, which surprises visitors when they approach the Favaritx lighthouse for the first time.

Cavalleria Lighthouse

The Cavalleria Lighthouse was built in 1857, it is one of the oldest lighthouses in Menorca, this lighthouse is located much further north and the panoramic cliffs offer a beautiful landscape of almost 100 metres above sea level, you will be impressed with such a spectacular view!

Through the Cavalleria lighthouse you can see the island of Porros, and you can also see what this lighthouse hides inside, where there is an interpretation centre dedicated to the lighthouses found in Menorca.

Punta Nati Lighthouse

In the north of the island of Menorca, just 6 kilometres from Ciutadella, you will find a landscape that changes in its entirety, this is due to the north wind, it is also located in a terrain that is much more arid, many people say that it looks like a moon.

The Punta Nati Lighthouse, you can find it just at the end of a narrow road that is framed by small stone walls, these stone walls seem to reach to infinity, this is a lighthouse that is shrouded in tranquility.

It was decided to build this lighthouse after the tragic shipwreck of the steamship General Chanzy in 1910, it is one of the most visited places, because in this lighthouse you can spend a beautiful sunset and you can also visualize and fall in love with the beautiful island of Mallorca, at night you can see a beautiful sky. Now, if you are one of those who like to walk, then you can do it by the historical path Camí de Cavalls, this path surrounds the island.

Cuitadella Lighthouse

The Cuitadella lighthouse was inaugurated on 30th April 1863 and is one of the first lighthouses on the island to be electrified in 1918. It has also undergone several modifications, such as the enlargement of its tower.

This lighthouse is also known as Faro de Punta de Sa Farola and is located at Punta de Sa Farola, just at the entrance to the port of Cuitadella, at the northern end of the beautiful island of Menorca.

This is the most urbanised lighthouse in Menorca, it has a large number of houses and villas along the entire promenade. It is a beautiful lighthouse that you can’t miss, its tower has vertical black and white stripes.

You will be able to have a very good and beautiful perspective of the Ciutadella, since it is an area where you can find scattered houses, something that you will love is that near the lighthouse, that is to say, from the promenade, you will be able to have total access to a small cove called Cala des Frares.

Artrutx Lighthouse

This is a beautiful lighthouse that was built in the middle of the 19th century, nowadays it is surrounded by urbanisations and the characteristic that attracts a lot of attention is its beautiful colour that makes it very attractive from the sea and from the land. It is a lighthouse with a totally marine aesthetic, it has a tower with white stripes and dark stripes.

The Artrutx Lighthouse can be found near Ciutadella, about 20 minutes away if you drive south. It is an excellent place where you can have a drink, as there is a restaurant in the former lighthouse keeper’s house, a perfect place while watching the sunset. From the Artrutx lighthouse you can see the town of Capdepera, if the day is clear.

Isla del Aire Lighthouse

The Lighthouse of the Isla del Aire was approved its construction project to begin in the year 1856 and just 4 years later its inauguration was celebrated. This marvellous lighthouse is located off the southeast coast of Menorca, in the Balearic Islands, specifically off the beach of Punta Prima, in the municipality of San Luis.

It is important to mention that the Isla del Aire is an uninhabited and privately owned islet with a surface area of 34 hectares and a perimeter of some 3,300 metres.

From the lighthouse and the island you can see the beach of Punta Prima and you can also enjoy a beautiful day on the beach, where you can see a totally paradisiacal environment, its sunset, you can also take a nice walk and if you wish you can have a drink while watching the sunset. In the summer you can see many boats that anchor off the coast of the island, also on the island inhabit a species of lizard that are called black sargantana, this is a species that is endemic protected and it can change what is its skin coloration to achieve confused with the habitat that surrounds it.

San Carlos Lighthouse

This lighthouse is located on the cape of San Carlos, very close to the mouth of the port of Mahón. It is one of the oldest on the island (1852) and is also one of the most unknown lighthouses, due to its modest appearance and restricted access, as the San Carlos lighthouse is located within the military zone of the ruins of the Castle of San Felipe.

For those who have the opportunity to visit this beautiful place, the best thing to do is to get to the end of the lighthouse and the Penjat Tower, so that you can contemplate the view of the port of Maó, a marvellous sight.

It is important to mention that the original lighthouse of San Carlos was demolished in 1917 to be replaced by a 10-metre high concrete tower with black and white stripes.
